This antique dining table comes from Harbin province in China and has been the recipient of gentle use in the course of its lifetime.

The smooth finish and light mahogany stain work together to bring out the wood grain. Take a peak at the additional image for a closer look.

The solid wood construction is incredibly sturdy, and a testament to the reliability of Chinese woodworking and joinery. The only question now is, while showing off the surface what will you do with all those table cloths?

China has a long history of woodworking with many types of woods and styles of furniture. Early popular pieces were items like day beds and various types of chairs. When the Chinese started to interact with Europe more they absorbed many types of furniture which they adapted for themselves as well as mimicked to export to Europe.

Pieces can range from the simple and sedate, like this table, to complex designs with intricate carvings. Examples of the latter can be found throughout our antiques collection as well.
