A pair of hand-forged gumpai (military fan) pulls are used to access the drawers, which are accented with sumikanagu (drawer corner hardware). The solid jomae (locking plates) feature a simple geometric design. The heavy use of kanagu (hand etched iron sheets) indicates that this tansu was commissioned for a very successful merchant. These iron accents provide a stunning contrast of natural materials against the delicate Kiri wood grain which is displayed throughout the piece..
