Wood as a renewable resource

Wood is the very heart of our business, and we do everything possible to support sustainable forestry and the responsible use of this precious resource.

The beams we collect are century old and have developed beautiful character and patina over the years. Manufacturers who use new or "green wood" run a high risk of of their pieces warping and cracking. Since all the wood we use is well seasoned, these factors are not an issue.

Wood is a dynamic material, affected by light, air, weather and changes in the temperature. Over the years, the wood will change in color, responding to its surroundings.

Our craftsman love working with aged wood, as the grain speaks for itself and guides their tools. The final product is always unique, and always full of character.

Craftsmanship

We manufacture everything ourselves, from start to finish. Artisans will work on a single piece at a time, focusing their creative energy so that each piece becomes an artful expression of its creator.

Unlike major manufacturers there are no assembly lines, and the process is not machined. Every piece in our collection is hand-made from beginning to end; from the milling of the wood, right down to the Japanese joinery, hand-rubbed finish and hand-forged hardware.

All our furniture is constructed using salvaged hard woods such as Elm and Gingko.

Gingko has a smooth variegated look while Elm has a strong swirling grain that closely resembles oak.

Most pieces are available in either wood.
