Wood is the very heart of our business, and we do everything possible to support sustainable forestry and the responsible use of this precious resource.

Solid Wood Beams

We start with century old beams that have developed beautiful character and patina through the years. Manufacturers who use new or "green wood" run a high risk of their pieces warping and cracking. Since all the wood we use is well seasoned, these factors are not an issue.

We work exclusively with solid Gingko and Elm. These are both hardwoods, and are known for their stability and longevity. Gingko has a smooth variegated look that resembles Maple, while Elm has a strong swirling grain that closely mimics Oak. Most pieces are available in either wood, and some pieces are also available with burl inlays.

The beams are first milled by our cabinet makers, who then hand-build each piece from start to finish. Traditional Japanese joinery techniques are used whenever possible.

Our furniture and cabinets derive their beauty from graceful proportions, skillful use of the natural features of wood, and a high level of craftsmanship. This process guarantees that your piece has a unique character, and will last for generations to come.
