The simple hardware of this isho kasane tansu (stacking drawer chest), indicates that it probably would have come from the Japanese province of Omi.
The four deep drawers provide ample storage space and are accessed by a pair of iron warabite drawer pulls.
The simple jomae (locking plates) and studded sumikanagu (border accents) were also forged by hand in iron, and provide a beautiful contrast against the fine grain of the Kiri wood.
Like all isho kasane tansu, this piece can be stacked as shown or placed back to back to create a simple and beautiful coffee table. The iron lifts help facilitate easy moving.

Unlike our modern furniture collection - these pieces are one-of-a-kind finds from Japan, China and Korea, and are available in very limited quantities.
Each piece is hand-picked based on uniqueness and patina. Many feature intricately carved symbolic shapes, showing the incredible attention to detail that is seldom seen in common-day Western carpentry.
