This incredible conversation piece is a must-have for any collector.
A variety of images adorn the various frames. These are from the Revolutionary Opera that were pasted on to the cabinet well after it had been built. The pictures were originally from pamphlets from the opera and were lacquered on to the frames. More information about this opera can be found on this site.
There are some alternate images to allow you to more fully appreciate the Mao Shoe Bench. You can view the bench with the doors open, as well as a closeup of the artwork and patina.

But are they comfortable?
We are often asked how comfortable these solid wood chairs and benches are. While this is truly is a matter of preference, we are confident in saying that they are used by our staff every day and they get the "thumbs up". They are used around our dining table and our conference tables in our Toronto showroom.
Many of the chairs and benches feature a wicker inlay. Aside from being artistically interesting, wicker is a flexible material that increases the comfort of a chair by distributing the weight on the seat.
Another technique for increasing the comfort of a solid wood chair is to contour the seat. Some of our chairs, like the popular Shinto Bar Stools have an extra wide contoured seat for increased comfort.
